Eunice Yu (FIRST FEMALE LIFE MEMBER OF THE WKFL 2025)

Eunice Yu was one of the backbones of the WKFL for over 7 years from 2016-2022.  Her main undertaking was the role of Secretary of the League which she performed with diligence and dedication.   Eunice’s selfless work ethic was much appreciated, and she was also a great support to her fellow WKFL Board members.  Eunice is a worthy recipient of a WKFL Life Membership in 2025.

Eunice Yu had extensive years’ service as a Public Policy Officer, Manager and Community Researcher. Her experience is in people management, developing policy, managing programs, Project Management and Leadership, governance processes, business improvement, Program Management/assessment and the development of learning materials. A proven track record as a highly effective leader/manager and a skilled communicator with excellent organisation skills who has delivered change in a variety of industries and organisations over her career.

A Yawuru and Bunuba woman from the north west (Kimberley) region of Western Australia.
Extensive experience and active involvement across community for the past 30 years, working to facilitate change through strategic research and innovative policy development. A lengthy administrative and managerial background working for the Australian Government for over 20 years; also a former Councillor with the Shire of Broome (2013) and former Board Member of the Kimberley Development Commission (2018). She served as an Advisory member on the Round Table for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Statistics with the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Ipsos Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group, and Sub Committee of National Indigenous Australians Agency Data Group.

Her experience and leadership in the sports landscape in the Kimberley has been exemplary – a demonstrated commitment to administration of Aussie Rules Football and Basketball for the past 10 years and 21 years, respectively. Instrumental in carrying forward the West Kimberley Football League in a period of uncertainty during 2019 to 2021 as Secretary and a life member of the Peninsula Bombers Football Club; Founding member of Broome Basketball Association (current President) and Basketball Kimberley Inc.
Her passion is ensuring access and opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport as well as building sustainable systems for sport. In March 2022 Eunice was inducted to the WA Women’s Hall of Fame for her contribution to sport in the State of WA.

Her experience in the Arts & Creative Industry is relatively recent; managing a not-for-profit social enterprise and balancing business development priorities for my current workplace -Nagula Jarndu Designs - is an exciting and challenging environment to demonstrate application of her expertise for the success of the collective of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
