Diary - Singapore

11th February 1977

Excellent, cheap accommodation in Singapore thanks to my trusty travel book - 'South east Asia on a shoestring'. Catching up with my diary below.

Population 2 million. Super efficient. Airport extremely busy. Officious. Penalties for smoking and littering. Luggage and customs were quick smart.

Tour the city. Not much traffic compared to Java. Very sophisticated. Buses are cheap. It's the wet season.

Expected Singapore to be bigger. Take a bus to Santosa. Lee Kuan Yu Prime Minister. Some discrimination at school between Chinese, Malay and Indian communities.

School starts at 7:30am and finishes at 1pm.

Go on the Cable car and see a good view of the city which is not as big as Melbourne.

Population is 2.2 million

Go to church but Mass is drowned out by the traffic noise.

Many Australians became sick in Bali.

Buddhists believe the highest level you can reach is when you can control your desires.
