The Sister's of Charity main centre in Calcutta is located here at Lower Circular Road. The building is on the right and you walk down this narrow lane way.

This is the entrance way and there is a little sign on the wall - Mother Teresa (IN) or (OUT)

April 11th 1977 - Sisters of Mother Teresa

Was searching through my stuff in the garage at home in Melbourne and found it. When I was doing volunteer work in Calcutta in 1977, I was lucky enough to meet Mother Teresa who was canonized a Saint in September 2016. All I had at the time was some notepaper, so I asked her if she wouldn't mind signing it. I then asked the guy at the Poster Shop at the end of our street if he could put a small frame around it. She had beautiful handwriting and this is a treasured memento.

11th April.

MEET MOTHER TERESA: She kindly signs my notebook 'God loves you. Love others as He loves you. God bless you' M. Teresa M.C.

She looked very pale and tired but very generously gave us half an hour of her valuable time. Her lips were drawn and she was somewhat stooped. She said "Indian peoplle are only materially poor. The poorest are the spiritually poor. That eats at the inside.

There are tiny babies like dolls that cannot live unless cared for by the Sisters.

These babies were often left at the front entrance way to PREM DAN. This was a large factory built by ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) given as a donation to assist Mother Teresa in her work. Prem Dan means 'gift of love'.

The coconut husks are smashed up to make mats.

Some of the MC sisters. The ones totally in white are postulants.

The sisters caring for the sick. Sr. Barbara is so jovial and was one of the first ones to join Mother Teresa when the order started in 1950.
