'GUMI'
(Rubber tyre in Tok Pisin)
Alan organising us in our preparation to tackle the Waghi River on Gumis. John pondering in the background and his daughter Lexi playing happily. |
I'm feeling confident that my Gumi will hold up in the rapids |
Kids were jumping happily from the bridge when we got to our starting point |
Here we go ........ |
That's me in the foreground setting off |
We travelled for a few kilometre down the Waghi River which was pretty hairy at times. All the Gumis punctured eventually except one - SO I MADE OUR DESTINATION ...THANK GOD! Mary Friedlieb, Adrian (VSO from England) and Alan at the end of our epic adventure. Mary drove the van to pick us up. |

On another occasion, as we were setting off, people from the bridge on top were pelting us with flour as we passed below. I was smart enough to bring an umbrella, so I was the only one who came out with the last laugh. You can see the flour on my feet. |
